Drawstring Bag
This easy to make drawstring bag is a great starting sewing project for just about any age. Use the larger size bag for a reusable carry all to keep in you car. Great for groceries or stuffed full of beach supplies.
MATERIALS:
2 5x5 inch squares of fabric
Needle and thread
2 30 inches pieces of yarn and a large yarn needle
INSTRUCTIONS:
Cut out 2 5 inch squares of fabric. Put right sides together(the sides with the design on them). These sides will be showing when you finish the project.
Sew along sides of fabric leaving the top open. Use a straight running stitch with your stitches close together.
Once you have finished the sides. Turn the top down ¼ -1/2 inch and sew a straight stitch along the bottom. Be sure you only sew through one side of the fabric.
Turn material right side out.
Thread a large needle with yarn but don't tie the end.
With the yarn, stitch a straight stitch along the top edges leaving excess at the beginning and at the end. Tie ends together.
Stitch another row of yarn under the first row making sure you leave excess yarn at the beginning and end. Tie ends when you reach the end.
Now pull the yarn to close the bag.
LARGER DRAWSTRING BAGS:
For a sleeping bag size use 7/8-1 yard of material
For a medium bag use 16 x 15 inch of material
For a small size bag use 11 x 19 ½ inch of material
*Experiment with different sizes ** REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE those old clothes, blankets whatever into a stylish drawstring bag with that worn look.
