Gardeners Apron
This gardeners apron has a generous cut and storage capacity. Made from sturdy canvas, it has a sectioned front pocket that is just the thing for all those lengths of twine, gloves, and shears that you need as you go about your garden chores.
MATERIALS:
36 x 29 inches of canvas for your apron
9 x 29 inches of canvas for pocket
3 1/4 yards of 1 inch cotton herringbone webbing tape for binding
2 yards of 1 inch cotton herringbone webbing tape for straps
Paper for pattern
Pencil
Sewing machine and thread
pins
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Using a standard apron shape, cut out a paper pattern, bearing in mind that the length of the apron is 36 inches, the width at the bottom is 29 inches, and the width of the bib at the top is 11 inches.
2. Lay the pattern on the fabric and cut it out.
Hem the top edge of the pocket, position it on the front of the apron, turn under the unbound edges, and pin and stitch in place.
3. Sew cotton webbing tape around the apron to prevent it from fraying.
Stitch down the pocket at regular intervals to divide it into sections.
Cut two 35 inch lengths of cotton webbing tape for the straps.
Pin in place at the top corners of the apron, crossing over at the back.
4. Stitch the straps to the apron, making sure you do not twist the tape as you do so and allowing enough slack for the straps to fit loosely over the body.
