Lap quilt is approximately 51” x 64” finished
Supply List
1-1/2 yds print for center rectangle
1 yd fabric A for first border and binding
1-1/8 yd fabric B for second border
53” x 66” batting (approximately)
3-1/4 yds backing
Directions:
Before you begin please read all of the instructions. Wash and press all fabrics. Sew with ¼” seam allowance.
Cut 1 40” x 52” rectangle from main print
Cut 2 2” x 40” strips from fabric A
Cut 2* 2” x 55” strips from fabric A
Cut 2* 5” x 43” strips from fabric B
Cut 2* 5” x 64” strips from fabric B
*These pieces may be pieced if needed.
Sew the 2” x 40” strips of first border to top and bottom of main print rectangle. Press toward border. Sew remaining first border strips to sides of main print rectangle. Press toward border.
Sew the 5” x 43” strips of second border to top and bottom of quilt. Press toward border. Sew remaining second border strips to sides of quilt. Press toward border.
Assembling:
Piece the backing into a rectangle approximately 55” x 70”. You can do this by dividing the 3-1/4 yards of backing into 2 pieces approximately 58” each. Remove salvages. Sew 2 pieces together along salvage edge. Press seam open. Lay backing right side down on floor or table, place batting on top of backing. Place quilt right side up on top of batting. Baste or pin together. Quilt using your favorite pattern. Binding should be made from remainder of fabric A. Cut in six 2-1/2” strips, sew together on short ends, press in half and apply to edge of quilt.
