Incorporate Oatmeal Soap Into Your Soap Making Recipes

There are several different ways you can make oatmeal soap. I will list a few ways:

• Put some whole rolled oats into your soap. A little goes a long way when it comes to exfoliating properties. Make a batch of soap that cuts into 32 - 4 oz. bars. Add about 1 cup of whole oats to this size batch. You can adjust the amount for the batch size you make. You can add these oats to one of your very best soap recipes and it is now an exfoliating oatmeal soap.

• Put a layer of whole rolled oats on the top of your soap right after you pour the sold in a big soap loaf mold. Push down slightly so it will adhere. When you cut the soap into bars, one end will have the oats on it. This will be the scrubby end of the bar; the rest will be smooth and creamy.

• Blend your oats in a blender for finer particles. This makes the soap even more abrasive as you have many more (be it finer) particles in the soap. Again, a little will go a long way.

• Blend your oats very fine and sift them. Use only the fine particles. The oatmeal is still noticeable in the soap, but less abrasive. If someone has sensitive skin, they can still use this oatmeal soap by lathering the bar on their hands and then soaping their body with their hands. For more exfoliating power, just rub the bar on the skin.

You can add oatmeal to any soap recipe and you can use whatever fragrance you want in your soap (I prefer Lavender Essential Oil). These are just some ideas how you can turn any soap into an exfoliating soap.

While oatmeal soap makes an excellent cleanser on its own, you may want to try customizing your natural soap even further. Here are a few ideas to consider:

• Include goat’s milk in your soap to leave your skin feeling soft and silky.

• Use Shea butter to enhance your soap’s moisturizing properties.

• Give your soap aromatherapy benefits with lavender essential oil.

• Add a touch of vanilla to enhance the fragrance.

A Quick and Easy Oatmeal Soap Recipe:

Things You’ll Need:

• 3-4 ounces glycerin melt and pour soap base

• 1 1/2 tsp oatmeal

• soap mold

• wooden or metal spoon

• serrated knife

• microwave-safe 2 cup measuring cup

• spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol

• microwave oven

Recipe for Oatmeal Soap:

• Assembly all your tools and ingredients next to the microwave oven.

• Chop the glycerin soap base into cubes.

• Place half of the oatmeal into the bottom of the mold.

• Put soap cubes into the measuring cup and heat in the microwave on high for 40 seconds. Stir. Continue to heat and stir the soap base at 10 second intervals until cubes are completely melted.

• Pour melted soap from the measuring cup into the mold, filling it 1/2 way. If the soap begins to harden before you are finished, simply reheat and stir.

• Add the remaining oatmeal to the measuring cup and stir.

• Allow the soap to set for a minute or so until the bubbles rise to the top. Squirt with rubbing alcohol. This keeps bubbles from forming in the soap so you have a nice clear bar.

• Allow the soap to cool for about a half hour or until the soap bar has hardened.

• Turn mold over and pop soap bar out by pressing down on the mold with your thumbs. If the soap bar is stubborn, place mold in the freezer for ten minutes and try again.
