An Easy Sewing Project

Custom Search

Here is an easy sewing project, a pattern to create these three quilted nesting holders. You can use them to wrap a pillar candle, hold small items like crayons or cotton balls, or match your room décor for your favorite plant. All made with less than 1 ¼ yards of your favorite fabric and fiberfill and created in minutes. Simple and pretty, you can give one or all three for a personalized gift. I even made some for my grandchildren using some jazzy dinosaur prints and back to school fabrics! Three sizes: 18 inches, 14 inches and 9 inches.

To complete this project, start with fabric and cut 2 squares of each size above. Cut one square of fiberfill to match each size.

With right sides together lay on top of fiberfill and sew around using ¼ inch seam allowance. Leave a two to three inch opening on one side for turning.

Turn and topstitch.

To Make Darts: (Sizes for smaller nests in parentheses)

Fold square in half and measure in 4,(3,2) inches in from corner and mark. Measure 3, (21/2, 1 ½) inches in from edge and mark to make the point of your dart.

Sew Darts. Turn inside out and voila…you have a nesting holder! (See placement of darts below)
