INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Measure your chair from front to back starting at the foot of the back leg and going up and over the back and seat to the foot of the front leg.

Take a second measurement from side to side, going from the foot of the front leg up and over the seat and down the foot of the opposite leg.

Cut out one piece of fabric to each measurement, adding 1 inch all around on each piece for hems.

2. For the corners, fold the hems over twice, and press.

Open the fabric flat, turn back the corner triangle at 45 degrees, and press.

Open the corner again, fold it diagonally, right sides together, so that the raw edges and the creases meet, and press.

Trim the seam allowance from the corner and press the seam open.

Fold the hems over and pin or baste in place.

Hem by hand using tiny slipstiches or by machine.

3. To make the fabric ties for your simple slipcovers, cut the fabric into sixteen 12 X 2 1/2 inch lengths, fold each strip in half right sides together, and stitch the sides and on short edge.

Turn right side out and slipstich the other short edge to close.

To make ribbon ties, simply cut the groscrain into 12 inch lengths.

4. Lay the two hemmed fabric pieces in position on the chair and pin them together at the points where the ties will be fixed.

Mark the position of each set of ties with tailor's chalk.

Pin each set of ties in place, making sure each tie matches up accurately with its opposing number, and stitch firmly in place.
